Gorgeous cottage, however the walls are paper thin and every movement could be heard in the next room. Very comfortable, but for me it was a little over-priced for what it was.

Booked @ 1918 restaurant for Sat night, but left accomodation to the last minute. Spent couple of hours on Friday, being referred from one place to another, until finally to a booking agency. Very helpful and came back to me within 10 minutes as they said they would. Fortunate to have the opportunity, but glad we did. Extremely happy with the facilities with the only hiccup not having hot water as we got ready for Saturday night dinner. A quick phone call and minutes later, all was good. Might say the partner was the one standing in the shower, not me! Breakfast facilities and offering was certainly more than expected. Only came up from Adelaide for the overnight stay with a visit to several wineries. Definitely enjoyed our experience and have already commented to friends. PS not the type to sit down and comment but give credit where credit is due. - Well Done and Thankyou. Greg H

The cottage was delightful and the setting lovely. The welcome food package was excellent, generous and much appreciated. The only two slight niggles we had were that there was only one log for the stove (the weather was great over our stay) and there was no hot water on the day we left. Extra lighting (spot) in the kitchen would be helpful for food preparation and we were surprised there we no place mates for hot dishes to avoid damage to the dining table. Other than that we found our stay delightful.

Goat Square Cottages was set in beautiful gardens and surrondings. It was old world charm finished with modern convienance. The actual cottage itself was romantic, charming and very warmly. My husband and I had a very romantic wedding anniversary and we couldn't have asked for anything more.

The only negative was I would have liked a note left to say it takes a long time for the hot water to come through, we called poor Ngaire out unnecessarily thinking we had no hot water. Everything else was perfect. The bacon left for our breakfast was the tastiest I have had in years, the underfloor heating made the little cottage very cosy, plus there was a wood heater and two reverse cycle units. The beds very comfortable. Two nights wasn't enough!

Cosy little cottage with small doorways, which made me laugh:) Even just the little added things like Vegemite and bathroom accessories. The local bread that was supplied was awesome. A comfortable self contained cottage, well sited to the township and restaurants. Parking while sufficient, was not a fantastic set up. A single A4 sheet with restaurant/tour/handy numbers would have been helpful. Room was very clean and nicely furnished. Climate control very good, bed was comfy. Kitchen and the communal laundry well supplied. Spa was thankfully large (I'm 6'2). OVERALL HOWEVER: A relaxed and enjoyable experience.

We stayed at the Flaxman Cottage for 2 nights during July 2011. The cottages have been renovated to a very high standard, with underfloor heating in the kitchen and bathroom (plus electric heating & cooling in the other rooms), new kitchen and quality decor and linen. The cottages combine history and comfort in an original and quaint garden setting. If/when we pass thru the Barossa again, we will stay there again. PS. The only reason I marked Service as a 4 was because these are self contained flats and Not Applicable would have been a better answer.

We stayed in the "Menge Cottage" at Goat Square Cottages (Tanunda) and thought it was just gorgeous. Everything you could think of was supplied....dvds etc and even Cadbury hot chocolate!! Spa was great and underfloor heating is just divine - being in the Barossa Valley in the middle of Winter and being able to walk around barefoot early in the morning is almost unbelievable! Enjoyed our stay and would love to go again someday!

Goat Square Cottages were a delight. Everything one could ask for (even heated floors in the bathroom and kitchen) in a 100 year + old cottage. Extremely comfortable and well equipped throughout, and the bacon and eggs in the fridge for breakfast was delightful. Just watch the heith of the doorways - they must have been short a century ago! We would certainly return when we're in the Barossa again.

Overall it was very good. It is a quiet location so easy to sleep at night. It is close to town so we could walk down into town really easily and quickly. The food left for us was very good. You were unfortunate to get supermarket bacon - we normally have the locally smoked bacon from either Schulz's from Angaston or Steiny's from Tanunda but occasionally run out and have to use supermarket stuff.

I would just like to say that we enjoyed our stay, we just noticed how noisy the hot water pump was which didn't disturb us inside but was quite annoying when we were using the barbeque & outside area to eat. The hot water was also very slow at heating up. Perhaps the garden & outside furniture could also do with some attention before guests arrive. It was a little bit hard to know where to park so that all 3 cars could get in & out easily.

We were pleasantly surprised with all aspects of the venue. We were concerned when we saw a mosquito inside the building, with an allergy to mosquito bites, it was a concern. We have been guest at your facilities three times and are booked in for January 2011 (booking all the rooms again). We have also recomended and invited our friends to stay with us on several occoasions. On our last stay we did notice that you didn't have a bottle of wine on arrival and also had no jams or fruit for breakfast where in the past you did include these. Your tea,coffee and sugar facilities where very low, didn't look like you had topped up things since your last guest, was a bit disappionted. Even with the cleaning that looked a bit rushed there where cob webs on the window ledge of the bathroom. Some of the kitchen cuboards look like they needed a wipe out, just for the dust and staines from people placeing perhaps still wet cups and plates away. The screen door had no soft closing spring on it so it would slam shut, was a bit anoying. Hope you can improve on this and overall we love the location.

While the cottage was warm and comfortable we were disappointed in the quality of the breakfast provisions (not enough for 3 breakfasts, no yoghurt); and firewood ran out on second day. There were no instructions on where to pick up the key and we had to inquire at the Visitors Info. For $190 per night I would also expect more spa provisions eg aromatherapy oils etc

We are glad that you found this 3.5 STAR cottage warm and comfortable. We apologise that the breakfast provisions did not meet your needs - we supply ample for most guests needs but no longer provide yoghurts or mushrooms because of ongoing waste. There is only room in the cottage for a stack of two nights of firewood. There is additional firewood in the open wood shed. Your Booking Confirmation email had not only the directions on how to find your cottage but the contacts for the Manager to arrange check-in. The Visitor Centre, just down the street, was able to make the call for you and you were shown into your cottage within minutes. We provide Australian made LanoVera bath products made with Australian grown Aloe Vera and Autralian merino sourced Lanolin. These were on the ledge next to the spa.

We had a fantastic stay in Menge Cottage. Fully equipped and spacious, right in the centre of the Barossa. Comfortable bed, fab spa bath, toasty warm fire. Highly recommend and will stay here again next time we're back! PS: Make time for a meal at '1918' restaurant in Tanunda - great food and service, a real highlight of our stay.

Menges cottage was pleasantly atmospheric. My daughter and I enjoyed ourselves immensely. I was particularly impressed with the restoration, the keeping of original features and the blending of the the newer pieces without losing the essence of the cottage. Ngaire was the perfect hostess explaining anything that I wished to know and imparting all necessary information. Guests were very well provided for catering wise with a range of teas, cereals, fresh local bread, coffee etc. I would repeat a visit in a heartbeat and will recommend it highly to anyone I know travelling in the Barossa area. Absolutely loved the cottage, it was so warm and cosy and with the low door frames you felt like you were in a real little hideaway. The only thing negative comment I have is that when we arrived apart from being down the cottage and given the key there wasnt anything much more said. It would have been beneficial to know that the owners of the property arent involved in the management of it and to call the manager for any issues, as i popped over there for something at one stage as didnt know this. Apart from that though, adored it and will be highly recommending it to all. Thanks

Positives: Very clean comfortable accomodation, nicely decorated. Well equipped kitchen. Floor heating kept cottage perfect temp didnt need the elec blankets or air con at night. Fantastic location for exploring barossa, and a very easy walk into town. Bed extremely comfortable. Negatives: Sound proofing between cottages not great and we weren't sure at first if the parking area was where we were meant to park or not. Beware the low doorways if you are tall Overall a positive experience, I would recommend Goat Square as a place to stay to others.

The only issue I really had was that there were mice (I saw 2 at one time) running throughout the cottage. They werent always there, but did appear on occasions. Might be worth laying down some bait... Apart from that, it was a great stay. Every little thing was covered from toiletries to glad wrap. And the equipment was quality. Thankyou for bringing the mice to our attenton - after the heavy rains at the start of Winter they tend to escape their garden homes for the warmth and shelter of the cottages! We closed the cottage for 24 hours after you left and were able to catch the two offenders!

We loved Goat Square Cottages. We are in Flaxman, the 2 bed one. The woman who ran them (Niamh?) was excellent. She let us leave some meat in the lock up fridge when we got there early then came round later to open it for us, all with a smile on her face, felt like nothing was too much trouble. The garden, setting and facilities were all lovely. Our complaints would be that it did stink of bleach on arrival, a smell that never really left the bathroom/bedroom off this for some reason. Also it said breakfast provisions for 3 days but with 4 people and only 4 tomatoes, that was only for one brekkie! Weirdly loads of eggs. It would be nice if there was some fresh fruit and yoghurt for those who preferred the muesli option, which is what our friends in a cottage down the road got given in addition to the eggs and bacon and bread. Also the tea box was not full so we got through half of the variants by the first day. It would be lovely if there were some lamps in the kitchen and living room, the overheads were interrogation room bright which didn't make for an atmospheric evening. Similarly there was no outdoor light near the BBQ and no torch so we had to use a mobile phone light to see if our dinner was cooked. Wwe get a lot of repeat guests - many come back with friends to enjoy the ambience of these heritage cottages. The garden is a wonderful spot to escape the world - with the heavy rains today we will see the "Easter Lillies" emerge with their flower spikes during the next week!

Glad you enjoyed your stay at Goat Square Cottages for two nights on Boxing Day. Our sincere apologies for not including the complimentary bottle of wine and complimentary chocolates. We normally include this little extra for two or more night stays. Unfortunately our Christmas staff inadvertendly left them out when they provisioned the cottage. We would have recitified this immeadiately if you had let us know during your stay.

Loved how clean it was and the privacy and quietness of the area and the pretty garden and good facilities. Would go back tomorrow if I could!
